Facts about The Auld Lang Syne Song:

Robert Burns, a Scottish man, first wrote the song “Auld Lang Syne” in the year 1788. It is based upon several older folk songs that were intended to bid farewell to the old year at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve.

 This song can also mark the end of a funeral service or a graduation ceremony.

This “Scottish” version is the best I have heard in a long time

I’m not sure I want it played at my memorial service, but it’s an option…

Pillowcase Sew Day

Independence Hall Quilters

On Monday, Nov. 13th (Okay, tomorrow), the quilter’s guild will create kits for pillowcase sewing at home and put some of them together in the hall.

We have a bunch of fun with this project, and so do the recipients. Usually, we get special requests from county child services to “custom” make pillowcases according to the child’s taste. Adult protective services are also provided with personalized pillowcases.

The personalized pillowcases program, created by Donna Staub, and now being managed by Joan Patterson, has become extremely popular, so that means we have many, MANY pillowcases to sew around holiday time. Many kids and older adults are in temporary homes and do not have access to their own things. To get a custom-made pillowcase, just for them, means so much.

I hope you consider joining us tomorrow morning starting at 9:00 am. You won’t regret it!

In case you missed Monday’s meeting, the awards are different this year. No more 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons. This year, IHQ started a new system where the number of top awards is based on the number of entries in each category. For example, the Dolls had four entries, so that category was awarded one ribbon. The Wall and Bed Quilts had many entries, so 19 ribbons were awarded among those categories. The voting was especially difficult – so many beautiful and clever pieces of art. Thank you to our dedicated ‘Viewers’.
